Physical description: Romy is rather short at 5'3'. Her hair is long, and jet black. Her eyes are large and nearly as dark as her hair, and her skin has an olive cast. She's voluptuous and comfortable with her body. It's served her well.
Parents' Allegiance: (DE, OotP, Ministry, etc.): Romilda's parents were not allied with a particular group. They played nice with anyone in the right social set.
Personal Allegiance: (DE, OotP, Ministry, etc.): Romy's priorities are to her husband and the 'family' she's recently acquired through her marriage, then to the OotP and trustworthy members of the MLE.
How do people perceive this character: Romy has a well-deserved reputation as a gold-digger and a trollop. In the past year or so, she's worked hard to improve herself. There are still many who see the woman she used to be, but those who bother to pay attention know that she's bright and devoted, with a shiny new moral compass.
Greatest passion: Love and family - two things that were sorely missing from her life for a long time.
Aspiration: A year or two ago, she'd have said her aspiration was to be the wife of a rich and powerful man. Romy did end up with a wealthy husband, though it was entirely coincidental. These days she's not sure what her goal in life is.
Greatest Positive Attribute: Determination and devotion.
Biggest Fault: Not thinking things all the way through. Romy can be impetuous and thoughtless from time to time.
Happiest Memory: The first time Joscelin said he was in love with her.
Most painful Memory: Her father's death and the realization she was on her own, with no one to rely on.
Does your character value the purity of blood: Not particularly.
Is your character "pure-blooded," a "half-blood" or "Muggle-born": Pureblood
Describe the character's personal history (however brief or extensive):
Romy was born to Kurt and Nazik Vane in 1982. As a child her father spoiled her, frequently buying her lavish gifts and parading her around like a princess. Shortly after Romy started at Hogwarts, her mother divorced Mr. Vane and married a wealthier man. Romy split her holidays between her two parents, but vastly preferred being with her father, who's doting had only increased now that she was only able to see him sporadically. Life at her mother's house was not as pleasant. Her mother saw Romy as a reminder of a life she no longer cared about, and frequently ignored her in favor of the two children she bore with her second husband.
When she was seventeen, Romilda's father committed suicide. He had accumulated a large amount of debt, and Romy wrote to her mother to ask for help in settling his affairs. The reply she received said that her mother felt no obligation to her now that she was of age and it was the last interaction she had with her mother. She sold the family home and most all of its contents, and moved into a modest flat.
A schoolgirl crush had led her to follow Harry Potter into the Auror program, though Romy quickly realized Harry was neither interested nor what she was looking for. Being an Auror trainee put her in a unique position for knowing who was important and which men were eligible. She worked her way through a variety of men, all wealthy and powerful or with the potential to become so. It was a lonely existence, but given that everyone she'd trusted had abandoned or rejected her, angling to become a trophy wife seemed as good a plan as any, even if her distraction did keep her from completing the training program on time.
In the meantime, Romy supplemented her income by selling information to the Vaisey family. She didn't know exactly what it was used for, but it obviously was nothing good.
In February of 2003, Romy met Joscelin Jones, a charming and handsome dragon handler in his late thirties. At the time, Joscelin didn't seem to have any of the qualities she was looking for. No obvious money or connections, and no romantic or physical interest in her by all appearances. Still, she enjoyed his company, and though Romy was often puzzled by this new sort of relationship, they quickly became friends.
As time went on, Romy found Joscelin was someone upon whom she could depend. The discovery that he was, in fact, a rich man was unimportant. He never judged her actions, never took enjoyment in her failures, and more and more Romy wanted to be the sort of person who deserved the respect her friend gave her. She buckled down in her training, and told the Vaiseys she was finished with their arrangement, something that resulted in a very traumatic experience for Romy, and once again, Joscelin proved to be her knight in shining armor.
It was over a year after their initial meeting that Joscelin took their relationship from friendship to something more. Less than two weeks afterward, they were married.
Profession: Auror.
