Character Audition Questions:

Name: Nathaniel Landon Rosier
Age and date of birth: September 25, 1978
Physical description: Nate is the quintessential Rosier. Their line is known for their fair features and bright blue eyes, and Nate is a fine specimen of their family's qualities. He's both blond (a bit on the sandy side) and blue-eyed, strikingly so. He's tall and has an athletic build after years spent excelling in various sports. Because of this, he's also well muscled, though not overly. He's handsome with patrician features - a strong jaw, defined cheek bones, an aristocrat's nose and a surprisingly soft mouth.
Parents' Allegiance: (DE, OotP, Ministry, etc.): The Rosiers are known for their elitist politics. Nate's father and grandfather were Death Eaters.
Personal Allegiance: (DE, OotP, Ministry, etc.): His family.
How do people perceive this character: It depends on who it is that does the telling of their perceptions. His father and grandfather would have said he was worthy of the blood, though his mother would have praised his apt mind and just heart. Those he doesn't get along with would call him a pompous bastard, though never to his face for it was well known his retribution was swift and terrible. His cousins - they might have called him a pompous bastard as well, but in good humor for they laid claim to him as theirs despite the feud of their parents. Nate has as many faces as is needed to get what he wants. What the real one is, is hard to tell.
Greatest fear: Failure.
Greatest passion: Winning.
Aspiration: He wants to make the Rosier name a great one again. Perceived as clean (even if it's not, entirely). There's a difference between being known as haughty nobility and dabblers in the dark arts, and the reputation his father and grandfather garnered the family as homicidal elitists and users of the Unforgivables.
Greatest Positive Attribute: Loyalty, to the point of ruthlessness if its required. He's a good listener, has an extremely sharp mind, and a killer instinct that is shaping him into a world class businessman, patrician and politician.
Biggest Fault: Nate has airs and an attitude. He was an only child brought up to be the head of a powerful, wealthy and influential family. Despite that he's going to do everything he can to repair the damage done to his family's reputation, and despite the fact that his father is in Azkaban, Nate thinks in a lot of ways, he's above the law. And in a lot of ways, he actually is. This doesn't help his attitude overmuch, though.
Happiest Memory: Holidays with his Mother and Father to their villa in Greece - the times when his father wasn't embroiled in Death Eater politics and they were free to be a family. Meeting his first cousins in school and having them accept him easily and openly as close family - the siblings he never had.
Most painful Memory: His mother's death.
Does your character value the purity of blood: Yes. Very much so. He'll be friendly to whomever it's advantageous to be friendly to, or if he just plain likes a person, but when he marries, it will be to a pureblood woman and their children will be pure of blood.
Is your character "pure-blooded," a "half-blood" or "Muggle-born": Pure-blooded

Describe the character's personal history (however brief or extensive):

Family: Nathaniel Landon Rosier was born to Hunter and Jillian Rosier on September 25, 1978. He's the first and only child to the couple. He grew up under the tutelage of his father and grandfather, Nathaniel Xavier, bred to be head of the house, the businesses and the line . He has many relatives through distant blood and marriage, but he is the Rosier who would one day sit on the family throne.

The headiness of this upbringing was tempered by the more level-headedness of his Ravenclaw alum mother. Though she came from a pure and proud family, the Beaumonts were not so large and powerful as the Rosiers, and along with her natural tempered mein, Nate had a lot more balanced upbringing than his father. His grandparents were hard-line blood elitists, to the point where they, along with his father, were avid supporters of Voldemort in both wars. They were able to elude the law the first time around, and the second war cost his grandparent's their lives, his mother hers by no fault of her own, and his father his freedom and sanity.

School: Nate was promptly sorted into Slytherin, a year ahead of Harry Potter, as most everyone in his family had been - including his aunt's daughter, Alexa Montgomery. As his aunt was estranged from his family due to her marrying a blood traitor, Nate hadn't met any of his cousins up to that point. He and Alexa made fast friends, though, and he was close with the twins, Cassandra and Miranda, when they sorted into Slytherin several years later. Though he was also friends with a few others he'd grown up with, the Montgomery girls were like the siblings he never had.

Always an athletic boy, Nate learned to fence, play tennis, ride a broom and he was an avid swimmer. His second year, Nate tried out for the position of Chaser and made the team. He also excelled in the classroom - a quick learner and most things came easily to him - though he had a special affinity and talent in Charms. It has long been a pastime of Rosier women, but Nate always reasoned he had to carry the burden of the sister he never had. Generally, he was a rather charming boy and was well-liked in school. He was clever, good-looking and played for his House's team. He never lacked for female companionship, and was generally treated with respect by the males. That respect was earned, early and nastily. Nate doesn't take a dare or an insult lying down, and he's ruthless. In that way, he's definitely his father's son.

Post-Hogwarts/The War: Nate graduated from Hogwarts just as unrest about the whispered rise of Voldemort was starting to scare people in the spring of 1997. He, of course, knew more about what was actually happening than most. His grandfather, Nathaniel Xavier, and his father, Hunter, were both Death Eaters and their home - Falcon Court - had been used for several years as a meeting place. Once he graduated from school, however, there was a lot of expectation from his grandfather, grandmother and father to take the Dark Mark and join the cause for blood purity.

His mother, ever the level-headed and reserved woman, cautioned him against such a commitment despite what her husband had chosen. Nate, being rather canny himself, was able to elude the pressures of his family and his father's companions - including the Parkinsons and Malfoys - without arousing much suspicion. He knew that Lucius' son had taken the mark, as had several others, but he was much more wary about the consequences of the binding. It was true he believed in the sanctity of the purity of blood, but Nate hadn't ever put that belief before his family, and though he loved his father, it was the single divisive point between them.

Then, in the early months of 1998, both his grandfather and grandmother went down in a skirmish with the Ministry. Not even weeks later, his family was notified of the death of his aunt's youngest and only son - Joshua Montgomery. It was almost as if his father was shocked to sense in the wake of so much family death and it was then that he decided for family first. He wanted his wife and son to get out of Britain.

Jillian, ever the realist of the two, knew that it would be impossible for them to escape without being hunted down by the dark forces her husband had entangled himself with. She contacted Scarlett, the long-estranged sister of her husband, and asked her to make an Unbreakable Vow to watch over her son and make sure he was provided for and protected when their family fell. Scarlett promised, her husband John Montgomery bonded the vow to each woman, and then Jillian went about trying to get herself and Nate out of the country despite knowing such efforts were futile at best.  She had family in France and did manage to get Nate to safety, but not before she was tracked down. On April 28, 1998, Death Eaters at Voldemort's bidding tracked her down and broke into the warded safe-house she had been using. Before they could find and take her, Jillian blew the house up, and everything and everyone in it. She died that day, and Nate was presumed dead with her.

After the loss of his parents and thinking his wife and son dead, Hunter Rosier went mad. The crimes he committed as a Death Eater in those last few months before Harry defeated Voldemort were atrocious and he was sentenced to life imprisonment in Azkaban by the Wizengamot for his crimes against humanity and wizard-kind, and is serving out his term in the mental ward there.

France to Now:  Though Nate hadn't been in France for very long when the war ended in Britain, it was not safe for him to return right away as being a Rosier garnered no public sympathy despite the fact that he hadn't taken the Dark Mark, nor had he committed any crimes. He only carried knowledge - knowledge of events and meetings he never reported - which just following the war, would have been enough to garner some kind of punishment from the war council and Wizengamot.  Thus he stayed with his mother's relatives, most of whom he'd never met before.

Nate hated France. He was sullen and difficult, even moreso when he learned of his mother's death. That first year in France was spent cooped up in his room - self-imprisonment.  It was the darkest time of his life. He had nothing but time to contemplate the dissolution of his family and the death of his mother which he felt untold guilt for.  Slowly, he began to live again. If not for himself, then because his mother would have wanted him to. He moved into his own home, enrolled in university and completed a degree in Charms and Business Management. Having kept in contact with his aunt Scarlett, she began to give him power to manage the Rosier businesses and investments in France - which she had leverage to do as she inherited his estate in Britain in lieu of his father being imprisoned and himself presumed dead.

He was briefly engaged to the belle of noble French society, but after the chase, having the witch that everyone else wanted didn't much matter to him. He broke off the engagement and for the first time in seven years, turned his eye back towards Britain and thought that perhaps there might be something there for him.  In October 2005, Nate went back to Britain.  He's reunited with his aunt, uncle and cousins, and has moved back into Falcon Court, but has yet to come out to the public.  Announcing one's self alive after nearly a decade of being presumed dead, reclaiming his inheritance, and taking over the Rosier investments are things that must be approached with care.  Nate is deliberate about the images he presents, and this will be the biggest coming out of his life.
