Describe the character's personal history (however brief or extensive):
Jared grew up rapt in his father's every word. He adored the man, and everything he did. Ethan in turn adored his son, spoiling him with any gift that Jared could possibly desire. The family celebrated when the letter came from Hogwarts, and again when Jared was welcomed into Slytherin, the same house as his father. As Jared grew older, Ethan showed him what he did for a living, and how he was so prosperous. Although Ethan didn't need the money; they were wealthy from their family line, he did odd jobs to pass the time. Ethan is in the blackmailing business. He is 'friends' with several shop owners, and many Ministry officials. When it came time for Ethan to bring Jared on one of his trips, Jared was very excited. Seeing the kind of power Ethan had over other people was enticing, something Jared wanted for himself. When it came time for Jared to join the business, Ethan took him out on a job. Giving his son an extra wand, Ethan told Jared to convince the shopkeeper to bend to their will. Jared failed in this, unable to perform the curse. Ethan took over and finished the job. Jared knew his father was disappointed, and practiced on the house elves until he got the curse right. The next time he went with his father, he succeeded and joined the family business. At Ethan's suggestion, Jared is engaged to a fellow Hogwarts graduate, Lisa Turpin. He does not have any feelings toward her, but when he expressed his concerns about this to Ethan, his father said, "No matter. She will make an obedient wife," as he smiled fondly at Jared's mother.
