Character Audition Questions:

Name: Charlotte Stone
Date of birth: First of May, 1966
Physical description: A lithe figure, helped by an increased metabolism and a daily run on the grounds and in the forest around her house, Charlotte stands at 1.74 M (5'8'') and weighs around 59 kilos (130 lbs.). Her deep blue eyes, which have the unique ability to gaze into the very core of anyone, are usually bright and full of life. Her age has begun to show in crinkles around her eyes, but she welcomes the changes to her appearance. Her blond hair seems to be getting lighter, and she's begun to wear it longer these days. She has three very large claw marks down her back, which have turned white with time.
Parents Allegiance: (DE, OotP, Ministry, etc.): Charlotte's father, Gabriel, was loyal to the Ministry to the very end; even in their commanding desire to round up and tag his daughter. Her mother was a muggle who was not attached to the wizarding world.
Personal Allegiance: (DE, OotP, Ministry, etc.): Charlotte's first and most important allegiance is to her patients. Their triumphs are her triumphs, and their failures hers as well. Mostly, she stays out of the wars that plague the wizarding world, going so far as moving during the second war to avoid the pressure from Voldemort's Death Eaters to join their side; being thought of as a weapon to be wielded did not go over well with Charlotte. Since then, she has spent most of her time dealing with the aftermath of the war in her patients and sticking close to herself. Though she works at the Ministry, she gives them as much space as she can.
How do people perceive this character: Charlotte has a warm and inviting smile, usually making it very easy for people to open up to. She has an uncanny ability to really understand what you're saying, as well as sympathize and empathize with how you are feeling. She does not talk about herself very often, as that road has led to trouble in the past, so she can seem stand-offish to some.
Greatest fear: Hurting someone when she has tried to hard to avoid it.
Greatest passion: Helping people.
Aspiration: To help as many people as possible, through self-actualization and caring.
Greatest Positive Attribute: Charlotte actually feels what you are going through, and is sincere in wanting to make it better. She does not like seeing people in pain, if there is a way to help fix it.
Biggest Fault: She has a hard time speaking of her past, and thus has a hard time building lasting friendships.
Happiest Memory: Buying her dream home, Panton Veritas.
Most painful Memory: Realizing she'd escaped from her cage and could have harmed someone.
Does your character value the purity of blood: Charlotte values character and perseverance.
Is your character "pure-blooded," a "half-blood" or "Muggle-born": Half-blood, though her blood does have another flavor to it as well.

Describe the character's personal history (however brief or extensive):

Charlotte lived with her mother for the first three years of her life in the streets of London, surviving in woman's shelters and on the kindness of strangers. She remembers very little of this time, as well as very little of the woman who would eventually succumb to pneumonia and leave her alone in the world.

For two years, Charlotte was passed from foster home to foster home. She spoke very little during this time, and was assumed to have some sort of learning disability for her lack of speech. Locating her father was difficult, as Gabriel Stone did not want to be located. A wizard who'd spent a very drunken night in London five years ago, he was not exactly happy when a five-year-old girl who did not speak was sent to live with him. Hiring a nanny to take care of his new heir, Gabriel was sure that the girl would turn out to be exactly what he remembered of her mother: nothing.

Growing up in a very cold and lonely house, Charlotte grew accustomed to relying on herself. Books soon became a great outlet for her, as did talking to the help her father had hired. Books became her best friends, allowing her to escape the confines of a less than compassionate home to wherever she wished to go.

When Charlotte turned nine, the blond began to experience emotional distress, ranging from bouts of hysterical crying as well as unexplainable anger or rage. Unsure where this inner turmoil was coming from, a frustrated Gabriel sent her to a head healer at St. Mungo's in a vain attempt to 'cure' her. Charlotte was amazed at the warmth shown by the man she met with. Though it became clear after several sessions that the man could not help the emotional problems she seemed to be having, she decided to continue the therapy, if only to have some sort of connection with someone who truthfully seemed to care.

Bradley, her therapist and closest friend, decided that she needed to see a specialist for what he could not help with. This woman, after setting eyes on the tall and thin blond girl with her knowledgeable blue eyes, knew immediately what was 'wrong' with Charlotte.

Empath.

It took two years for Charlotte to fully understand and begin to control her ability. Her father, who disapproved of such a simple magical ability, said nothing of his daughter's talent, but continued to pay the therapist and specialist bills if it meant he did not have to listen to Charlotte cry. Two years later it came as a shock to everyone, except Charlotte, when her Hogwarts letter arrived. Perhaps not as ordinary as he'd originally thought her to be, Gabriel bought her only the best things for her impending schooling. His attempts were lost on Charlotte, who could now feel what he really thought of her.

School was terrifying for Charlotte. She was sorted quickly into Ravenclaw, though she did not make many friends during her tenure. The emotions filling the school halls were oppressive, and Charlotte made several trips to the infirmary due to becoming overwhelmed, becoming good friends with Madame Pomfrey as a result. Of course, the frenzied emotions surrounding her only grew worse as she continued in school; the swimming fear of a new place coupled with the anxiety of making friends morphed into that of finding a boy or girl to snog with and take to the tea house on Hogsmeade weekends. The varied emotions that were flowing from those around her were completely all-encompassing, and Charlotte spent every summer with her specialist, learning to control her ability.

The frivolity of emotions changed drastically over her years at Hogwarts with the rise of Voldemort, who brought a general rash of fear, tinged with a hint of excitement from many of her classmates. Keeping her head down, focusing on her studies, Charlotte graduated in 1984 and immediately entered the school at St. Mungo's for Head Healing. Bradley had taught her what true compassion and caring looked like, and she wanted nothing more than to share that love with others.

While in school during her practicum, Charlotte became the obsession of one of her patients. Michael was a paranoid schizophrenic, someone who was very difficult for Charlotte to counsel. His emotions fluctuated so widely, sometimes at different points during the same session, that helping him seemed impossible. Still, unable and unwilling to give up, Charlotte suggested that he come in three times a week instead of the usual once.

For Michael, this gesture of help and caring was mistaken for romance. He began owling her daily, sometimes twice in one day, telling her that he couldn't wait for their sessions and that he couldn't sleep the night before he was to see her. Sure that she had said or done something wrong to make him believe she had any sort of feelings for him, Charlotte did what she was told and transferred Michael to another healer. His level of emotion for her, bordering on obsession, was terrifying.

This, for Michael, was possibly the worst thing that could have happened. Convinced that if he couldn't have Charlotte, that no one could, Michael discovered her home address and waited for her to return one night from work before attacking her. In the days before Delores Umbridge, it was very hard for the Ministry to keep close tabs on who had been infected with lycanthropy, and during the war with Voldemort, this had been used as a weapon. Michael had been infected by Fenrir Greyback when it had appeared he could be useful. When his psychological condition was discovered, he was tossed from the fray, driving him that much further into psychosis. The night he attacked it was a full moon, and he'd thrown open every window in her flat, bathing it in moonlight.

Charlotte barely survived the attack, found the next day by Bradley when she didn't show up for an appointment. She was rushed to St. Mungo's, where she spent the next month healing from her injuries. When it became clear what she had been attacked by, the hospital immediately reported her to the Ministry. The day of the first full moon, Charlotte was locked in a basement ward at the wizarding hospital. The first change was unbearably painful, and Charlotte did little more that first night than whimper in her changed state in a corner of the cage.

Being a registered werewolf with the Ministry of Magic was not exactly the future Charlotte had seen for herself. Her father, a staunch believer in the Ministry, was adamant that she be removed from the program at St. Mungo's for fear that she would harm someone. However Bradley, who had several friends on the board of the committee, managed to save her career and keep her in the program. Her father was furious, and made it clear that he never wanted Charlotte to contact him again.

One of the conditions of her approval to remain in school was a severe and regular dosing of wolfsbane on the full moon. Charlotte had no arguments with this arrangement. However, the necessity to pick her potion up at the Ministry seemed cruel and unusual, as did the taste of the concoction they provided. She persevered though, even locking herself up in the cage in the basement of St. Mungo's for fear of hurting anyone.

Feeling very much restricted and uncertain if this career path was the right one for her after all, Charlotte continued her school and graduated from St. Mungo's with a degree in Healing with strict emphasis on Problems and Conditions of the Mind.

Over the intervening years, Charlotte has made a small niche for herself in the wizarding world. She is on retainer with the Ministry, something Bradley encouraged for her. Visiting the Ministry so often allows her a small bit of lenience, including receiving her potions from another supplier... as long as she has their supplier approved, provides the Ministry with receipts of her purchase, and reports to the Ministry the day after the full moon to have her blood tested for the appearance of wolfsbane in her system.

Though she has found a few friends, she is mostly content to pass her free time in her garden, using the fruits and vegetables she grows to bake with.

Profession: Head Healer and Therapist. She is on retainer with the Ministry for their employees, and also has a private practice out of her home in Middlesbrough.

Charlotte's visual representation is Cate Blanchett.
